At CEPS, we offer two main types of assessments for children and young people aged 6 to 16 years of age to help you understand and support your child's development and learning. Each is tailored to your child’s unique profile, using gold-standard, evidence-based tools and a warm, supportive approach.

Cognitive and Educational Assessments
With big changes in literacy and numeracy in primary schools and new co-requisites in high schools, many parents are hearing concerns from teachers or feeling unsure about their child's progress. If you’re wondering whether your child is getting the support they need, you're in the right place.
Our experienced educational psychologists work with children and families to explore each child’s unique learning profile. Through a combination of cognitive and academic assessments, we identify strengths, uncover any learning differences, and explore and explain the barriers to learning way—so we can find the best way forward together.
We can assess for:
GIFTEDNESS
TWICE-EXCEPTIONAL
PROCESSING DIFFERENCES
(e.g., working memory, auditory processing, visual processing)
INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY
LOW LEARNING MOTIVATION
ANXIETY AROUND LEARNING
We also provide assessments for Special Assessment Conditions (SAC) to support students in exams (NCEA, CIE, IB)
Results and recommendations are valid for 3–4 years and are shared in a detailed but easy-to-understand report.
Frequently asked questions
We understand that seeking an assessment for your child can feel overwhelming. As a parent, you're likely juggling concerns, questions, and a deep desire to do the right thing—but the process can feel confusing and emotionally loaded. Whether you're worried about learning struggles, a recent diagnosis, or school changes that don’t seem to be supporting your child, you're not alone.
We’re here to walk alongside you with clarity, compassion, and practical answers to help ease some of that anxiety and give you a sense of direction.

Specialist Developmental Assessments
– COMING SOON!
If you're concerned about your child’s development, behaviour, or social-emotional functioning, a developmental assessment may help provide clarity. Our assessments combine observations, interviews, standardised testing, and gathering a developmental history to give you a holistic picture of your child.
We can’t prescribe medication or fast-track you through the public health system—and we’re honest about that. Diagnosis and medication require a Neurodevelopmental Paediatrician and/or Psychiatrist.
That said, we're building strong relationships with local professionals to support a seamless, compassionate and child-focused pathway for you and your child across their home, school and community. We will let you know once we can offer this full service.
