Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi Policy

Purpose
Cambridge Educational Psychology Services (CEPS) recognises Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand. This policy outlines our commitment to upholding Te Tiriti in all aspects of our practice to ensure culturally responsive, equitable, and respectful psychological services.

Principles
CEPS commits to the three principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi:

  1. Partnership – We will actively engage and collaborate with Māori clients, whānau, hapū, and iwi, recognising them as equal partners in decision-making processes. We strive to build strong relationships and work alongside Māori to achieve shared goals.

  2. Protection – We will respect and protect Māori knowledge, practices, language, and resources. We will safeguard Māori clients' rights to culturally appropriate services and honour Māori models of wellbeing such as Te Whare Tapa Whā, Te Wheke and Te Pikinga Ki Runga

  3. Participation – We will encourage and facilitate the participation of Māori clients and whānau in all aspects of assessment, intervention, and service delivery. We will work to remove barriers and promote inclusion at every level.

Our Practice Commitments

  • Continual professional development in Te Ao Māori and cultural competence.

  • Embedding Māori frameworks and perspectives in assessments, interventions, and reporting.

  • Building partnerships with local iwi and Māori service providers in the Waikato region.

  • Reflecting on and challenging our own biases and assumptions to ensure culturally safe practice.

  • Providing resources and information that are accessible and meaningful to Māori clients and their whānau.

Review and Accountability
This policy will be reviewed annually in consultation with Māori colleagues and advisors to ensure it remains relevant and aligned with best practice. Feedback from clients and community stakeholders will be actively sought and incorporated.

Approval
This policy has been approved by Cambridge Educational Psychology Services and will be communicated to all staff, contractors, and partners.
